But of course not all was rainbows, unicorns, and butterflies in 2014 but for the most part it turnout to be a GREAT year.
I started to plan more how I could quit my job and go on a “Self-Searching Adventure”. This adventure didn’t happened quite as I planned or expected it but still I am happy how it turned out!
May 9th was my last day at my job, it was a great feeling leaving this job, the job wasn’t even bad but I was just not thriving in it and was feeling like my life had little purpose with this job. I urge you to plan ways on how to change your current job if you feel like I felt, it is not a good feeling and I don’t wish it on anyone.
May 16th – One of my best friends Katinka came to visit me in Boston for 2 weeks! We had a very nice and relaxing time hanging out in Boston, Connecticut, and NYC! And it felt amazing to really feel Free and Alive in a very long time also to spend some quality time with my bestie!
May 30th – I headed to Dominican Republic! Right after Katinka left I started to feel a extreme urge to visit my roots and to see my grandparents so I went very crazy and booked a flight right on the spot! My God I can not express how thankful and grateful I feel to have gone back to DR. I didn’t know how much I needed to go back to my country but I was overwhelm with happiness just been back and seeing my people, seriously there were times I felt like crying of pure happiness, it was that magical.
June 8th – I return to Boston, it was a very short trip and wish I planned to stay longer in DR but I was waiting on news of another opportunity and didn’t know if I could stay too long.
After coming back I realized how fast money was running out and even though I still had some left I still was not working and when you are not working managing your money for traveling and fun is not the easiest so I had to take a reality check and decided to babysit for a few weeks while I waited for my next opportunity. This 3 weeks taught me a lot and I think in a way they even prepared for what came later on.
July 18th – I went to NYC once again but this time it was not about a vacation, it was to take the time to spend sometime with my Aunt Ramo who is like a second Mother to me. I realize how crazy it is that we don’t take time to spend with our love ones on a regular bases that it takes feeling free of everything to finally take the time to look around and say “Wow, why had I not contacted that someone I love so dearly sooner?”, I think it has to do with being stressed, overworked, and not filling fulfill in life. I had days were all I wanted to do was return home eat something fast and just sleep or watch a tv show until I did the same thing allover the next day, definitely not the best way to live your life as life is meant to be lived!
July 23rd I returned back home and this time I booked my ticket for my opportunity to move and work in Europe, Slovakia to be exact! You can read about that here
July 31st – I got on a plane to my new life. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I’m living right now to work and live in a different country. To finally feel more alive and with more purpose at work but most of all to finally feel like I am really learning to “work to live and not live to work“
But I do have to say the even though I am working more to live I still quite like my job, now I work as a teacher in a Kindergarten and I really have come to love my children, to thrive in making new activities for my classes, and just overall been surrounded by nice and like minded people. Of course though that work will always be work and I too have my days were I wake up and simply wish I could spend my time another way but working is part of life. Not sure if there is a job where I will feel 110 percent happy all the time but if there is such job I’m looking forward to it! For now, I’m right where I need to be.
In 2014 I also got to see other magical places such as:
- Liptov and Banská Štiavnica, Slovakia
- Budapest, Hungary
- Vienna, Austria
- Brussels, Belgium
- The Hague & Amsterdam, Holland
- Bled, Slovenia
And lastly celebrated the end of 2014 – New Years Eve watching the Fireworks by the Danube in Bratislava.
This year I also met someone, someone who maybe one day I will write about here on the blog but for now is just someone who in Frida Kahlo’s words looks at me like I may be magic! 😉
This is also the year the I have traveled the most, I was in 8 countries this year! And I am more than grateful for all the travel opportunities and can’t not wait to see where I will go in 2015!
Somehow it felt like most the things that happened to me in 2014 were already planned out for me… as Paulo Coelho would say “It’s written.”
Now of course some of my favorite pictures of 2014!
I shared this song before but if I had to put 2014 into a song it would be this one! I Lived by OneRepublic
