Stoicism

Screen Shot 2016-07-05 at 10.28.49 PM

I am currently listening to the book Stoicism by Tom Miles, I have to say that I am quite impressed so far and haven’t even finished the the book so I wanted to share a few lines that I really enjoy from the book. Also to encourage anyone reading this to try to get into books wether is reading or listening to them, it is so beneficial to space the mind, put things in perspective, and even learn new things from time to time. I know reading is not for everyone, I personally love both reading and listening to books but I am also very flexible and don’t try to finish everything I start just because I already have it which is probably why I do enjoy reading. Sometimes I prefer to nibble around different books specially when I can’t seem to bring myself to finish one I’ve already started because I have lost interest or just not in the mood for it. So don’t feel like you always have to finish every book you start sometimes is just good to pick this and that from various book, the point in my opinion is to read for the sake of reading and gaining knowledge that may be helpful for us in everyday life, to enlighten or brighten our mood! Getting lost in a book is a magical magical thing! Give it a try! 😉

The images are from Tom Miles book Stoicism, Chapter 3 – the highlighted parts are the ones that resonated most with me and I felt the need to share them! I have the book both on Audible and Kindle. Books are something I never regret spending money on.

Getting my inspiration back…

Don't Let GoHave you ever felt like life, inspiration, and so much more has literally being sucked out of you? Well that’s how I felt at one point in my life, I felt as if all that I had always love had being sucked out of me little by little. I decided to take some action into my own hands which as not as easy as is songs aloud. But I braced myself with some good old courage and signed myself up for an Art Class. It was by far one of the best decisions I have ever made. Even though I felt tired at times having to get from work and right after heading to my 3 hour art class but usually I completely forgot about my exhausted day once I was there, I LOVE this class.

I also felt completely intimidated to meet all my classmates and just to get out of my very comfortable and lazy zone but after it I learn how extremely important it is to go out of our comfort zones. My classmates turned out to be super nice, helpful, and truly taught me a thing or two about life and myself. I have this theory that meeting someone new always helps me learn a little more about myself, this was the case with my classmates – the more I learned about them the more I learned about myself. This class gave me back my inspiration, I felt myself getting back the life and light that had being sucked out of me and it was a glorious feeling. If you ever find yourself in such situation try to do something that you love even if you don’t feel like it will workout and assure you that at the very least you will learn a thing or two. My advise is to just try, try to find what it is that you can do to get back what’s yours, don’t let go of your inspiration and dreams even if you or others think these are silly dreams!

Some of the pieces I created in class or during the time I was taking the class:

IMG_4803IMG_4129 IMG_4219 IMG_4098 IMG_4139 IMG_4136 IMG_4534 IMG_4094 IMG_4121We were even having lovely snacks and wine in some of the classes as it was a class for adults and usually we had some lovely music in the background, and one time Ron, our Professor brought his friend to play Spanish guitar for us!

IMG_5408Thank you Universe for putting this class in my path right when I needed it most! 🙂

My Amazing Valentina!

A Beautiful Mug I had my eyes one for a while now and delicious Strawberry and Aloe Tea!

A Beautiful Mug I had my eyes on for a while now and delicious Strawberry and Aloe Tea!

Just look at this beautiful gift my dear friend Valentina sent me today! I have severe bronchitis and have to stay home this week but Valentina made sure my roommate brought me back this thoughtful gift. The gift itself is beautiful of course but for me is all about the thought behind the gift and knowing how thoughtful Valentina is I know all the amazing thoughts she put into it! Thank you so much for making my day EXTRA EXTRA BRIGHT! I am still smiling from ear to ear as I write this. My heart melts completely to know that I have such caring and amazing friends in my life.

Valentina!

Valentina!

The day I took this picture I started to think of a post I needed to write about Valentina because of all we have shared in such a short period of time of knowing each other, I just knew I have to dedicate a whole post to her. Because she inspires me in so many ways that she may never even know. Valentina is my partner of coffee-shops and dream crimes!

The Universe is funny, clever and knows exactly what to do with your life because interestingly enough Valentina and I happen to have the same shift at work which is the reason why our friendship has grown to a friendship I know will last a lifetime! This is how we started to go enjoy some fun and dreamy chats after work over an awesome cup of tea, coffee, and of course our favorite Chia Latte from Urban House!

We do not solve world problems over our cups of tea and coffee but having a loyal friend when you live far away from home who is there to listened to you unconditionally is very special and creates a bond very hard to break.

Meeting Valentina and all the incredible friends I have made since moving to Slovakia is one of the main reasons I would NEVER regret my decision of coming here. Today I also received other lovely texts from my friends from work to check up on my health status, so sweet! 🙂

But anyway I am just beyond Thankful with the Universe for putting such amazing people in my path. Thank you Valentina for your constant inspiration on everything from life to travel, to being courageous, daring me to dream bigger, our love for Art and Creativity, and all you do for those around you! You are a truly Amazing and Inspirational friend! 🙂

*Valentina has started a blog and you can click here to check it out!

Lastly a song of course!

Lean on Me by Bill Whiters (*Fun Fact – this was 1 of the first songs I learned in English and is a perfect friendship song!

Feel free to share lovely friendship stories or thoughtful gifts with me in the comments below! Have a Lovely Thursday, Friday is almost here! 🙂 <3

2014! Definitely A Great Year!

2014 Best Moments2014 – A very exciting year for me as I opened myself to so many opportunities, the power of saying “Yes” is incredible.

But of course not all was rainbows, unicorns, and butterflies in 2014 but for the most part it turnout to be a GREAT year.

I started to plan more how I could quit my job and go on a “Self-Searching Adventure”. This adventure didn’t happened quite as I planned or expected it but still I am happy how it turned out!

May 9th was my last day at my job, it was a great feeling leaving this job, the job wasn’t even bad but I was just not thriving in it and was feeling like my life had little purpose with this job. I urge you to plan ways on how to change your current job if you feel like I felt, it is not a good feeling and I don’t wish it on anyone.

May 16th – One of my best friends Katinka came to visit me in Boston for 2 weeks! We had a very nice and relaxing time hanging out in Boston, Connecticut, and NYC! And it felt amazing to really feel Free and Alive in a very long time also to spend some quality time with my bestie!

May 30th – I headed to Dominican Republic! Right after Katinka left I started to feel a extreme urge to visit my roots and to see my grandparents so I went very crazy and booked a flight right on the spot! My God I can not express how thankful and grateful I feel to have gone back to DR. I didn’t know how much I needed to go back to my country but I was overwhelm with happiness just been back and seeing my people, seriously there were times I felt like crying of pure happiness, it was that magical.

June 8th – I return to Boston, it was a very short trip and wish I planned to stay longer in DR but I was waiting on news of another opportunity and didn’t know if I could stay too long.

After coming back I realized how fast money was running out and even though I still had some left I still was not working and when you are not working managing your money for traveling and fun is not the easiest so I had to take a reality check and decided to babysit for a few weeks while I waited for my next opportunity.  This 3 weeks taught me a lot and I think in a way they even prepared for what came later on.

July 18th – I went to NYC once again but this time it was not about a vacation, it was to take the time to spend sometime with my Aunt Ramo who is like a second Mother to me. I realize how crazy it is that we don’t take time to spend with our love ones on a regular bases that it takes feeling free of everything to finally take the time to look around and say “Wow, why had I not contacted that someone I love so dearly sooner?”, I think it has to do with being stressed, overworked, and not filling fulfill in life. I had days were all I wanted to do was return home eat something fast and just sleep or watch a tv show until I did the same thing allover the next day, definitely not the best way to live your life as life is meant to be lived!

July 23rd I returned back home and this time I booked my ticket for my opportunity to move and work in Europe, Slovakia to be exact! You can read about that here

July 31st – I got on a plane to my new life. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I’m living right now to work and live in a different country. To finally feel more alive and with more purpose at work but most of all to finally feel like I am really learning to work to live and not live to work

But I do have to say the even though I am working more to live I still quite like my job, now I work as a teacher in a Kindergarten and I really have come to love my children, to thrive in making new activities for my classes, and just overall been surrounded by nice and like minded people. Of course though that work will always be work and I too have my days were I wake up and simply wish I could spend my time another way but working is part of life. Not sure if there is a job where I will feel 110 percent happy all the time but if there is such job I’m looking forward to it! For now, I’m right where I need to be.

In 2014 I also got to see other magical places such as:

  • Liptov and Banská Štiavnica, Slovakia
  • Budapest, Hungary
  • Vienna, Austria
  • Brussels, Belgium
  • The Hague & Amsterdam, Holland
  • Bled, Slovenia

And lastly celebrated the end of 2014 – New Years Eve watching the Fireworks by the Danube in Bratislava.

This year I also met someone, someone who maybe one day I will write about here on the blog but for now is just someone who in Frida Kahlo’s words looks at me like I may be magic! 😉

This is also the year the I have traveled the most, I was in 8 countries this year! And I am more than grateful for all the travel opportunities and can’t not wait to see where I will go in 2015!

Somehow it felt like most the things that happened to me in 2014 were already planned out for me… as Paulo Coelho would say “It’s written.”

Now of course some of my favorite pictures of 2014!

My Walks with M & Dee to get coffee, something so simple that made me very happy!

My True Blood … ABC Drink

Image

Screen Shot 2015-03-22 at 9.35.20 PMMy TrueBlood… ABC smoothie a Great Little Detoxifier!

1 Apple
1 Beet
1 Carrot
If you Wish add Lemon, Blend… At last Drink Up & Enjoy!

Let’s get a bit personal… about 1 year ago I was having very bad problems in regards to my period. I simply was not getting my period, around the same time I was also having a lot of back pain and funny enough due to the back pain is how I stumbled upon this little magical juice!

A holistic/masseuse and simply amazing woman who I visit for a massage told me to try “ABC juice” because she was not only giving me a massage but she was also genuinely interested in learning about my health and she suggest this juice.

I kid you not, after FOUR straight months of NOT getting my period and before that getting my period very irregularly I got my period that same week of making this juice. After that miracle I wholeheartedly believe in the magic of this juice and still make it every now and then.

These are some of the benefits she told me about the ABC Juice:

  • Helps with Period
  • Helps to better Skin quality and Acne Problems
  • Helps your digestive system
  • Cleanses you liver, pancreas, and kidney
  • Cleanses your body of toxins
  • Can seriously help you after a Hangover* 😉

*If you are wondering about the taste I seriously don’t mind it, specially if you put extra pieces of apple but is not necessary and is my period regular now, YES! 🙂

Polévka z červené řepy = Beetroot Soup!

The first soup I tried in Slovakia was Beetroot soup! It was super delicious and quite interesting as it was my first time trying it and I had never even heard of Beetroot Soup. Beetroot is said to have tons of benefits therefore this soup plus the juice will probably do magic to the human body!

If you try these please let me know in the comments! I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.

Lastly, songs of the moment, the videos are pretty cool, interesting and Wow the “Take Me to Church” Video is just WOW incredible and sad, and mesmerizing all at once. After such video I can help to Wish that one day we will be able to accept everyone for what they are just simply human beings without all the stupid labels that are so unnecessary and only bring hatred to this world.

Kwabs – Walk

Hozier – Take Me To Church

Enjoy! 🙂

Na Zdravie to New Beginnings!

Drum Roll please!!!! ta ta ta taddadat t ta ta a da tt taaa… I have left the States and I am currently living in Europe, Slovakia to be exact!!!

It has been 31 days since my best friend Loh and I arrived in what is to be our new home for 1 year or perhaps 2! This is the BIG Change I hinted on a previous post, since April of this year Loh told me about the opportunity to work in Slovakia teaching in a private Kindergarten and I figured why not let’s apply! But I have to say the Life is quite funny because I was planning to quit my job and travel to Norway to “find myself” very cliche of me but I felt lost/numb/and lifeless ever since graduating college and Norway seem so breathtakingly beautiful plus I felt in love with the images of this magic new land and even with the language, I was so seriously set on going there that I was learning Norwegian on my own and funny enough I found a man who offer to teach me, such a strange sign that Norway was where I was meant to go. But instead of Norway I ended up in Slovakia, a country that I knew was in Europe but seriously that’s all I knew about it and a country I had never dreamed of visiting. It is quite interesting and peculiar the way life works, I really do believe the some things or maybe everything is already written for us but sometimes we alter what is written if we don’t follow the signs. I really thought all signs were leading me to Norway but I have no idea why end up in Nitra, Slovakia though I do feel very strong about the fact that I am exactly were I am meant to be right now in my life and perhaps one day I will reach Norway but for now I am exactly where I need to be. I am living “my own personal legend” as Paulo Coelho would say in “The Alchemist.”

BTW I recently read “The Alchemist for the first time and I am angry I did not read it earlier on in life but again maybe now is when I needed it most so perhaps it is the perfect timing for me to have read it, and I strongly recommend you to read it if you haven’t already because it is magnificent!

Back to Slovakia and our work… Well so far the program hasn’t been fully organized but I figured this would happen as Europeans just seem more relax about everything and even though I don’t love uncertainty it is refreshing to be in a country where people work to live rather than live to work, that is my favorite thing about all the European countries I have visited that I have noticed.

As for me so far I am beyond happy with my decision to come here even though I have had my little struggles here and there, and I miss my family like crazy I just feel way way happier about my life right at this moment. In USA after graduating college I was feeling quite numbed and now I feel alive again, I feel like blood actually runs through my veins and that is what life is about for me. To feel alive at all times because it is not enough to breathe everyday you got to feel it in your veins.

But enough with the lecture, I will talk through pictures now as I have tons LITERALLY tons!

We Often Seek Dreams that Don’t Belong to Us…

Photo(6)“This is the Answer  to a Question that was asked to the psychiatrist Roberto Shinyashiki in an interview for the magazine “Istoe
Camilo Vannuchi The interviewer asked him:
Many people have tried to seek dreams that are not theirs?
Shinyashiki replies:
– Society wants to define what is right . There are four Crazy ideas in our Society .
The first is:
Establish that everyone has to succeed, as if he/she had not individual meanings.
The second is crazy:
You have to be happy every day.
The third is :
You have to buy all you can. The result is this absurd consumerism.
Finally , the fourth madness:
You have to do things the right way. There is no right way. There is no single way to do things.
Goals are interesting/important for success, but not for happiness.
Happiness is not a goal, but a state of mind. Some people say they will not be happy until they get married, while others say they are unhappy precisely because of marriage.
You can be happy eating ice cream , staying at home with family or true friends, taking your children to play or going to the beach or the movies.
When I was newly graduated in São Paulo, working in a hospital for terminally ill patients.
All dying, around nine or ten patients will die everyday. I always tried to talk to them. Most of them will grab the doctor by the shirt and say:
“Doctor,  don’t let me die. I sacrificed my whole life, now I want to enjoy it and be happy.”
I felt a huge pain for doing nothing. There I learned that happiness is made of small things.
Nobody at death says how they regret not having used their money in real estate or stocks but what they do regret is to have waited too long or missed on several opportunities to enjoy life.
‘Having problems in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional.’

My best friend sent me this interview in Portuguese and I was so happy because I was able to understand everything and I think this article should be read by everyone and then perhaps a few of us will understand and see that money does not equal happiness, yes money helps. But way too often we forget that money is material, it banishes, heck money even catches on fire, we spend so much time preoccupied in how much money we need for this and that, that we forget what truly is the meaning of happiness, happiness will never be measured in money if that were the case why do so many people who seem to have it all commit suicide? I hope that who ever reads this is inspired to live the life they wish to live without the restrictions that we see way to often in our society. To appreciate the little things, to stop focusing so much on money, spend more time focusing on enjoying the ones we love and doing the things that make us happy because in the end that’s what really matters or at least that is what those facing death seem to want to tell us.

If you still have your doubts listen to the words of Alan Watts or THIS – Fifty People One ?

1800-Contacts – YOU ROCK!

And the “BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARD” goes to “1800-Contacts

Wow seriously I have always been a huge fan of 1800-C but wow tonight they literally became my favorite online store ever. I recently bought a different brand of contacts which I had some type of allergic reaction to and there for I wanted to return them but was not sure if I could, I bought 90 contact lenses and still had 83 unused ones. I actually didn’t think I could return them so I logged in to 1800-C to check for their Customer Service number to call them tomorrow morning as it was nearly 1am but as I was looking up the contact number a little “Chat Now” screen popped up and at first I was like what the heck is 1 in the morning why are these people working but I decided to write and goodness I am beyond happy I did. A girl name Kimberly, that probably is not her real name but whatever Kimberly was a amazing, helped me with the entire process, a new box with my usual contact is on is way as I write this and I only had to pay a small difference as my new contacts are more pricy.

1800-C seriously big thank you for been beyond simple to use, fast, and incredibly hassle-free. Thank you for an amazing customer service experience and keeping us blind people seeing better and also preventing many many accidents. hehe

***Please note that no one is paying me for this post, I simply want to write this because I love to give merit to those who deserve it.

Penny Boarding Dreams

Hello Blog World, how is it going?

This weekend I received my awesome Penny Board, gotta love Amazon for the fast delivery. I have wanted to learn to skateboard for as long as I can remember, note I have never wished to become a professional skateboarder, all I want is to learn how to cruise around on a skateboard which is why I decided to buy the Penny. But it took me quite a long time to actually buy myself a board, you see the problem was the I always consider my “skateboarding” more of a small dream and the one time I mentioned it to my cousins one of them even said “You’re so going through phase” and I felt truly bother by the comment because phase or no phase I think is important to not let go of things we really want, to not let go of our little or big dreams because they make us who we are and as we let go of them we become more and more bitter after time. I have met one too many bitter people in my life and I truly believe that the reason for their bitterness is from letting go of their dreams. So don’t ever let go, hold on tight and dream on friends. Never Let Go.

IMG_1430I really have been loving watching Ben Brown on Youtube, I really like his positive outlook on life and something he said in one of his videos adds to this post. He said “You gotta push your limits you know… You gotta learn, you know try these things, if you don’t try these things you won’t learn how good you can be at something.” – Ben Brown

So regardless if is “just a phase” or “life long dream” go for it, give it a try, like Ben says you won’t know unless you try, and trying is everything.

Super short video of me because I was afraid to record for too long and fall on my face haha

Favorite songs right now:

Sam Garrret – Don’t let go (Thanks Ben & so appropriate for the post!)

V/V – Champagne (Clearly I have been watching to many of Ben’s videos, haha)

Hi-Rez – The City (In love with this video and with Ana Maria Suzano, her skateboarding skills are sublime!)

We make our beds and we sleep in it…

We make our beds and we sleep in it…

That obviously sounds better in Spanish but here are a few points I am trying to make:

“We” — Humans… Yes, Us humans love to complain about the circumstances in our lives all the time, heck I do it all the time too but I also stop myself and smack myself a bit from time to time because seriously all problems we usually have, we brought it upon ourselves in some away or another, unless is of problems of nature.

We forget to pay a bill and it gets sent to a collection agency and of course we blame the company “that did us wrong” it is never our fault… but don’t you think that if you would have called this company at the start of the issue and asked them for some type of payment plan, that you wouldn’t be in this situation now?

Another circumstance for example is when one is handed opportunities, money, or whatever good thing but some of us never learn how to appreciate it, how to prospect from that, how to help ourselves from the hole that we are in, we somehow just waste the money or miss out on the opportunity and dig ourselves deeper into our hole again.

We get to comfortable, somehow even in our hole we find comfort between excuse after excuse and we get afraid to dig ourselves out so we blame it all on “God”, “the universe”, the “stupid bill collector”, “bad karma” that is “following us” etc etc… I believe that if you do good the universe would give “good” back to you so sometimes it maybe good to just check ourselves and see where in our lives we are messing around with karma and doing something wrong.

There is, cause and effect for all that we do but somehow we never seem to grasp this concept… we party too much we have to pay for it the next day with a hangover, we eat too much we gain weight, we charge too many useless things on our credit cards we have to pay for it later, we leave our homework for the last minute but it is not our fault it is the teacher’s fault for giving us the assignment a month in advance and not reminding us of it… catching the point?

The thing behind the title “we make our beds and sleep in it” is in regards to all the things that we do without thinking that there would be consequences so therefore we are ‘forced” to lay on our beds and deal with it as best we can. But we often don’t, we like to blame anything and everyone and just make it worse for ourselves. We hate to admit that maybe it was our fault, we forgot the homework, maybe it was our fault we bought too many unnecessary things with credit card money, maybe it was that my friend didn’t let me borrow enough money to pay my ticket etc…. The point is we love to complain and complain that we have “bad luck” and “bad karma” when in reality most of the things that happen to us we bring upon ourselves. But one thing is certain, we don’t have to stay in our “hole” or dig ourselves dipper which is why is important to look for help and inspiration wherever we may find it. Is important to pick ourselves up, face our issues, move on, hopefully learn, and try to become a better person from that experience.

Example: someone near me always has a messy car, so one time me and a few others decided to do something nice and clean this person’s car in hope that this will help her get a fresh start and that she wouldn’t be frustrated anymore. She of course appreciated and was super thankful at the moment but in the matter of weeks her car went back to messy… so you see sometimes even when we help or give people the opportunity to dig themselves out of the hole they are in, they are just too “comfortable” and loose their sense of sight and worth so much that they much rather stay “in the safety” of their hole.

Those are my few cents on complains faults, karmas, lucks, the universe or whatever you wish to call it. Just some food for thought as they say!

Hope this post doesn’t bring anyone down but that it makes you think and reflect on those things you do and the cause and effects these things have.

*Also I want you to know that We ALL are capable of “saving” ourselves, if we look to find balance we will find it, and life will start to look brighter, better, and the hole will start to disappear little by little.

IMG_2459I love Bukowski so thought this quote was appropriate for the topic! And how cool is the pink effect I gave 1 of the many cloud pictures I took this summer! I went totally insane photographing clouds but I guess now I found a purpose for all of those cloud pictures! hahaha
